Urban Renewal within Cape Town

The Cape Town Partnership has been at the forefront of Cape Town's urban renewal. When they were first established in 1999, their aim was to manage, promote and develop the Cape Town Central City.

Thus far, they have not only met, but superseded their initial targets, resulting in Cape Town's being the best managed CBD in the country in terms of cleanliness and safety. The knock on effect of this success is that they have managed to retain and attract investment into the city.

Services are particularly important within Cape Town due to its economic structure. New economic growth is coming from finance and business services, wholesale and retail trade and catering and accommodation sectors. The bustling Central City offers the largest location of formal jobs and it is therefore vital that these services function properly.

Bringing People Back Into the City

The Cape Town Partnership is currently trying to encourage more people to live and work in the Central City. This offers many benefits, including:

  • Lowering traffic congestion
  • Support retail growth
  • Create more jobs within the Central City
  • Create a vibrant bustling city

The Cape Town Partnership is involved in a number of projects to attract working families back into the city, one of which is the redevelopment of approximately 4 000 sites in District Six for mixed income people.
